Summer Rec Hockey Programs
Overview
Classes are designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey. Skaters will learn how to maneuver faster, be more agile on the ice, and improve their game skills. Proper skating techniques will be one focus of the program. Skaters will learn to be successful in game situations, stick handling, shooting skills and goalie fundamentals taught by experienced hockey players.

Power Skating for Hockey (REC)
Time is spent on developing individual skills such as backward skating, quick stops and starts, edge control and body positioning.
Stick Handling and Shooting skills
On-ice instruction focusing on puck control, agility, stationary and mobile stick-handling and developing skills to pass and shoot harder, quicker and more accurately.
Game concepts
Players will learn the roles and responsibilities of each position in the game of hockey while learning and practicing basic breakouts, neutral zone conversions, offensive and defensive strategies and other game concepts.
Special skills
Special skills program allows players to round out the day at the rink with fun activities such as shoot-outs, stick handling competitions, scrimmages, speed races, relay races and other fun on ice games.
* Registration and payment for City Summer Rec programs [Power Skating, Stick Handling and Shooting Skills, Hockey Concepts and Special Skills] must be done through the online Summer Rec Registration system.
* A minimum of 5 registrants are needed for City Summer Rec programs to be held
**Skaters enrolled in all four City Rec hockey programs arrive at the rink during the noon hour and can be picked up between 5:00 and 5:20.
